What do the colors mean?
The map has three views, switched from the layers button.
Long-term parking colors every block by how soon a car parked there now would have to move, from red (today or tomorrow) through yellow to green (a week or more). Metered blocks are blue.
Day parking is for parking a few hours. Every block shows whether you can stay the whole time: green is free, blue is paid, orange is for commercial vehicles only, and red is no parking, whether for street cleaning, a no-standing rule, or a stay longer than the meter allows. Set how long you're staying with − and +, and tap Now to pick another day and time, to plan a trip into the city.
Cleaning days colors each block by the weekdays it's restricted, one color per day; a split pill or stripe means more than one day.
In drive mode, the cards for each side of the street follow the view you've chosen.
How do move reminders work?
Tap a block and choose Park Here. A banner shows when you need to move: it turns yellow the day before and red, with a countdown, in the final hour. You can also get a notification ahead of time.
Can I park more than one car?
Yes. The first time you park, the app keeps track of one car, with no names to set up. When your car is parked and you tap Park Here on a different block, choose Park Another Car and give each car a name. From then on, the app asks which car each time you park, labels each car on the map, and sends each one its own reminders. With more than one car parked, the car button lists where each one is and when it has to move, with directions to each. To rename or remove a car, choose My Cars from the layers button and swipe it.
What's the repark alarm?
For when you double-park through street cleaning and move back to the curb before it ends. From half an hour before cleaning on your parked car's block, the app offers an alarm, and the car's sheet has a switch for it. Choose how many minutes before cleaning ends it rings; your choice is remembered. On iOS 26 it rings like a Clock alarm, even on silent, and counts down on your Lock Screen until then. On earlier iOS it's a notification.
Double-parked? Leave a note
Print this note, fold it in half, and write your number on it. Set it on your dashboard when you double-park, so anyone you've blocked in can call or text you to move.
What about holidays?
Alternate-side parking is suspended on NYC's ASP holidays, and the app skips them when working out your move-by time. When a holiday is coming up in the next two weeks, a banner lets you know. Open the full list from the layers button.
I don't see rules on my block
Rules appear on blocks with posted street-cleaning or no-parking restrictions; some commercial areas have none. Zoom in to see day pills on each block. If the map isn't centered on you, check that location access is allowed in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.
The rules look wrong for my block
Sign data comes from the city's Parking Regulation Locations and Signs dataset and is updated with app releases. Always check the posted sign. If a sign is missing or incorrect in the city's data, you can report it to NYC DOT through 311.
Does the app work outside NYC?
No. It uses NYC's sign data and covers the five boroughs only. Elsewhere, the map stays on New York and says so. Times are always New York time, as on the signs, so a trip planned from another time zone reads the same.
Is the app free?
Yes, NYC Parking is free, with no ads or in-app purchases.
